Where the difficulty sits

The field is saturated with thin sites
That is a real barrier and also the opening. The bar is low enough that accuracy alone distinguishes you, because almost nobody is paying the cost of keeping the entries true.
A free tier disappears overnight
Pricing pages here change monthly. If your listing says free and the tool has not been free since spring, you have wasted somebody's afternoon and they will remember which site sent them.
Generic coverage is worthless
A list of every AI tool competes with a thousand identical lists. Every AI tool a small legal team can actually run on its own infrastructure competes with nothing.

How to start this one

  1. Narrow until it sounds too narrow

    Not AI tools. Open-weight models that run on a single consumer GPU, or evaluation tools that work without sending data to a third party. The narrow version is the one that ranks.

  2. Record what the marketing page hides

    Rate limits on the free tier, whether the data is used for training, what happens to your account at the usage cap. Those are the fields people are actually hunting for.

  3. Date every entry, in public

    Show when each listing was last verified. In a category this fast, a visible date is a stronger trust signal than any badge you could design.
