Service providers

Service provider directories

Freelancers, trades, consultants, agencies. Here the entry is a person or a small firm, which changes everything: the facts are self-reported, the stakes of being wrong are high, and the value is entirely in filtering.

  • Trust-heavy
  • Self-reported data
  • Clear buyer

What a listing has to carry

Two fields carry a service listing: what they will take on, and whether they can take it on now. The rest is context.

  • Disciplineenum

  • Typical project sizenumber

Where the difficulty sits

Availability is the field that decides everything
A perfect match who is booked for four months is a dead end. It is also the field nobody maintains, because it changes weekly and there is no incentive to admit being busy. Solve that and you have the directory.
Everyone describes themselves generously
Self-reported skill lists converge on identical. Structured fields with a small set of allowed values resist this in a way that free text never will.
The person listed is the person paying
Unusual and useful: your listings have a direct commercial interest in being findable. That is a straightforward path to paid placement, and to entries being kept current for free.

How to start this one

  1. Take one discipline seriously

Not freelancers. Technical writers who work in regulated industries. The narrower the discipline, the more meaningful your filters get and the more obvious your value to a buyer.

  2. Decide what you verify, and say so

Insurance, a licence, a portfolio you actually opened. Pick what you check, state it on every listing, and never imply you checked more than you did.

  3. Make updating trivial

The availability field only survives if changing it takes one click. Design that flow before you recruit a single provider.

Describe this niche in your chat

The agent proposes a field structure before it writes a single listing. If it has misread the niche, you will see it immediately and can say so.
